How "not" to disturb your friends on facebook !!

<>

Stalking .
We click on every possible link that promises to reveal the persons stalking on our profile .

Dear fb users .

Please dont click on any link that cliams to reveal the persons stalking on your profile . Its high time for you to realize that Facebook does not provide the ability to track who is viewing your profile . You click on that not caring for other fb users . As a result it is posted on each of ur friends wall . And now your friends wall is full of such links from many friends like you . Now he/she should manually delete those links and report that as a spam if he/she is responsible enough . And believe me facebook want us to stalk on others profile . Thats the whole point of not providing such a trivial service . The amount of time we stalk is directly proportional to the amount of time we spend on facebook . So fb doesn't want to reduce this time . In any case such apps ask for ur permission which includes "app can post on others wall without giving a notice to u" . I dont understand how can someone be so irresponsible by ignoring that permission request . Say you cant stop urself from using that service and so gave that permissions to the app . You can always go to here to clear that apps but you don't. I kindly request you to clear atleast any "one time used" apps if not all .

My Gmail account got hacked!!

It was 7/02/2010:06:30 PM.

As a part of my routine life, I logged into my CSE account to check if any unexpected holidays or any unusual lecture postpones are declared. As expected there are no such wanted mails. But there was one mail which I felt interesting.Have a look at it

Subject: Hacking
From: "bhanu prakash"
Date: Sun, February 7, 2010 5:48 pm
To: prakashb@cse.iitb.ac.in
Priority: Normal
Options: View Full Header | View Printable Version | Download this as a file

Hi, I have hacked into your gmail account. I now have your info. Cheers
mate!

As U guessed, the FROM address is my gmail account.I was little worried as this gmail account is very important for so many reasons. So I immediately tried logging into my gmail account.Thank god!! I was able to log in.I was wondering why that person who got access to my account(through my password) dint change the password.Whatever, I decided to change the password and done so.

After that I was thinking of the possibilities for my account being hacked. One possibility is that the mail i got might be a spoofed mail.I had actually done these spoofing mails in my 3rd year btech for some testing purpose. In this case the attacker uses a third party website like this to send a spoof mail.So i want to check whether the mail i got is a spoofed one or not.So i sent two mails, one a genuine mail from gmail account and another a spoofed mail with from address as my gmail account, to my cse account.

My plan was to compare the headers of these mails with the header of the original "Hacking" mail I got.Surprisingly the header of the genuine mail and the original "hacking" mail is same.In other comparison the headers differ(particularly the "X-Envelope-From" field) a lot. So i concluded that the mail i got is not a spoofed one.So i was worried about the info i got in my gmail account.I discussed this with my roommates for some advise.Senthil suggested to check the login details. To do so, I scrolled my gmail page till the end where i found a link to know the details which looks like this "Last account activity: 18 minutes ago on this computer. Details".

In the "details" page there is a list which contains ip address and the corresponding time at which the account is accessed.Surprisingly all those Ip addresses are the public IPs of IIT bombay. So it is very clear that the attacker is inside IIT(I felt he is in my room). The possibility of the attacker being one of my room-mates is very high as they can see my password while i am entering it.So i took Omair's little(it is less than little) laptop and checked the history. There it is!!! an entry containing these words "Compose mail--prakash.1729@gmail.com" and exactly at time 5:48 pm.Omair was laughing as i was finally able to catch him.So we are done finding the attacker.Next qstn, Do he know my password???..Fortunately NO.So what exactly happened??Here it goes as explained by me in the style of Sherlock Holmes..:P

I was saying this to omair and senthil with some bond music as a background in my mind..

"Hey man how did u access my account".Omair continued smiling."Say it man, wait!!! I got it.I remember accesing my gmail account form your lappy before we went to tiffin. As we are in hurry I might not have logged out from my account.Once we returned from evening tiffin, may be at 5:45 pm, U observed that i dint logged out and calmly sent a mail to my cse account from the gmail account and logged out..that's it na!!"

Omair replied smiling "Yes".
Every one is clear that he did it just for fun and just laughed.I was more relaxed as my account is not actually hacked..:)

Google suggestions

Source:chutneycase.com

Inspired from one of the blogs I follow!!

We all google(aka search) the web many times a day.You might have observed that google gives us some suggestions to search, based on some algorithm.I never considered these suggestions as I know what i want to search. But after reading this blog I want to verify that.So I and my friend want to observe the search suggestions from "how, how a" to "how z".We observed some funny results as expected.Out of them more than 70% consists of FAQ about pregnancy.By now you might be wondering "what if I try searching pre"!!. Ofcourse, almost all the suggestion are regarding "pregnancy". Later I tried with "Why and What".They also resulted in similar results but less funny.

So try it yourself and have fun :)

Though i have an abstract idea, I exactly want to know how this search suggestion works.Unfortunately I dint get any interesting link to share about this. But I got an useful link which explained, in simple terms, how generally a search engine works.

Keep googling :)

An hour in mumbai local train

Local trains are the most widely used means of transport in mumbai. The reasons are pretty obvious. In my case I had a train from CST at 12:30 pm to catch . I decided to go by local trains as they are cheaper and faster. People here warned me about the crowd in local trains .They said its almost impossible for me to go by local trains considering the luggage i have. But the low cost and fast transport pulled me towards it.So i decided to go by local trains.I started planning my travel to CST considering the crowd and time(at which i travel ) factors.I had decided to reach the nearest station (Kanjurmarg) by 9:00 am . As this station is very small, all the trains that come here are fully loaded especially at office hours. So i had decided to go to a major station near by(in the opposite direction) and then catch a train that starts at that station .In my case the major station is "Kalyan".Many trains start at kalyan whose destination is CST.As i had a lot of time , i thought of spending some time observing the trains in both the directions(towards CST and towards Kalyan). After some considerable time I concluded that trains going in both the directions were having the same(almost) crowd. So getting into a train towards kalyan is as difficult as getting into a train towards CST.Now i was left out with only option, catching a train towards CST.I failed in my first 5 attempts .In my 6th attempt i used all the energy saved since last week to get into the train.Believe me!! these mumbaiwalas are damn strong, they just dont allow you to get into the train.

Now the journey started and hence the pain. I had a black suitcase trolly and a laptop back bag.I kept the suitcase down on the way to the door and i was standing behind it holding my bag. There were some 50 people(including my suitcase) in that small space between the two opposite doors.I really cant express the pain, but physically i was twisted,sandwitched..wht not.!!.Suddenly one guy started speaking in a language which I couldn't understand.I tried to express in my so called hindi, that i was not able to understand what he was saying. Some other guy explained me in hindi wht the first guy was trying to say . They dint know that i am very week in hindi . So after using all my knowledge in hindi and with utmost difficulty and pain i understood that he was asking me to take the suitcase away(so obvious,i should have guessed this rather than trying to understand what he was saying). Then i told him "can u plz show me a place where i can put my suitcase".He showed me some space in a rack. The rack is physically 4-5 feet far but logically it is at an infinite distance after considering the crowd.I dint know wht to reply i jst kept silent thinking WTF!!.Now the train was slowing down and i knew that i was in great trouble .I could not go inside as there was no space and could not get down as this was not my stop.So i expected some pressure and stood firm catching a rod . But the pressure i faced is some 1000 times more than i expected. These people dont mind killing you if you come on their way.I faced similar difficulty at the next 5-6 stations.I could not stop appreciating my sapphire backbag which was still alive without any damage. Many people left the train at a major station where i got some place to sit .I kept the suitcase in the rack above me with a guy's help.

Now i am looking at my bag and guessing the damage that my laptop might have got.I had decided to check the laptop after reaching the main station.Though i was using a little space to sit, i felt like i had all the worldly comforts(a million times comfortable than standing in this local train). The one opposite to me was reading a news paper.First i thought it was a hindi paper so i tried reading it while he was still holding it.I dint find a single word which i knew, then i concluded tht it was a marati news paper. So I slept for 15 mins before the train reached CST .

At the station...

It was 11:20 am in the morning .I still had more than a hour to my train.I walked out of the local train and walked into the waiting room. With slightest hope i opened my bag and took the laptop out.Checked the laptop for possible damages....the result was a very big smile on my face as nothing had happened to my laptop.Thanx to the bag and the dell xps laptop .Then I spent some time appreciating the laptop. And finalized a tagline for my lappy.."STRONG !! Where it matters".Spent some time in the waiting room and then got into my train.

So people dont dare to get into local trains atleast in the office hours.

Thats all for now....and thanx for reading ....:)
